About Me

Hi, I am Rikkie Dale, a Japan-born artist now based in Seattle.  I am mostly self-taught, and since 2018 I have mainly focused on experimenting with contemporary figurative art and cityscapes in a variety of mediums.  I thrive on using my deep inner voice to explore current social issues and human nature, and to tell my narrative through my art. I am rather a late bloomer to pursue my art dreams and start this journey after 50.  But who knows? Through a path of independent study and practice, I enjoy the challenge of rough water… and I wish, one day, to bring some hope for underprivileged women, artists, and all other fellow later starters.

Biography

To be honest, I have no formal academic training to list in my biography. What you see on this website are screen shots of my art career.  As the daughter of an artist and a renaissance man, I grew up in a house with lots of artwork, tools, books, objects, and the smell of oil paint. I painted with him.  One of my sweetest memories is of him painting me falling asleep in a rocking chair while sitting for a portrait. That painting is still hanging in my studio.  I’ve always loved art, and in my youth I was at my best in art classes.  As my life has taken its winding course, I sometimes played around with pastels or made woodblock prints.  Then in 2017, I somehow found the book, “The Fabulous Life of Diego Rivera” by Bertram D. Wolfe, at a used online bookstore.  His book, and the friendly accessibility of art in Seattle drew me back into my deep love of art.  This time with a determination, my desire to create was reawakened and my art journey, struggles, and triumphs began.  And some day when my paintings are good enough for sale, I'd like to help single parents and their children with those proceeds.

Though my work is largely undiscovered, if you would like to talk about collaborating, or if you have a specific project you would like to propose, please do not hesitate to contact me.
